Purpose and scope
NewCredit.cards helps people new to U.S. credit cards understand how the account and payment system work, compare real costs, and verify changing terms through primary-source explanations, transparent calculators, and time-stamped research.
The launch deliberately excludes “best credit card” lists, universal approval thresholds, inferred credit-score requirements, user-review ratings, and unverified current offers. A page is not approved merely because a keyword has volume. It needs a distinct reader task, evidence standard, update owner, internal-link role, and measurable outcome.
Editorial method
Every indexable page must record:
- the exact reader and task;
- the U.S. or other named jurisdiction;
- the search intent and current result format;
- the original value the page adds;
- the evidence behind material claims;
- how quickly the facts can change;
- the page’s role in the topic cluster;
- its risk of duplicating an existing page; and
- a measure that justifies continued maintenance.
Wording variants are merged when they answer the same task. Supporting pages own their worked examples and detailed decision tables; cornerstone pages summarize and link to them. Historical narrative and contested-priority research are kept separate because they serve different intents.
Financial sourcing policy
| Source class | Use | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Regulators, statutes, regulations, and official data | Controlling legal text, official guidance, disclosures, and market data | Use current section-level citations; guidance is not a substitute for law |
| Standards bodies and network documentation | Technical definitions and network-specific mechanics | Do not generalize one network’s process to every implementation |
| Issuer agreements and official product pages | Current product terms and issuer-specific operation | Time-stamp and archive evidence; check field by field |
| Museums, archives, and scholarship | Historical objects, dates, context, and competing interpretations | Corporate histories do not settle contested priority claims alone |
| Commercial explainers | Orientation and search-result analysis | Never controlling evidence for legal rights or current terms |
Inline citations resolve to visible page-level source lists. Direct HTTPS links are preferred. Material numeric claims need a date and table, report page, or dataset context. A source that merely repeats a claim does not make that claim verified.
Current card-term verification
No real current card offer is published in this implementation. Future product records must store field-level evidence for APRs, fees, rewards, bonuses, availability, eligibility, agreement URLs, verification dates, archives, changes, and publication blockers.
A current product page can publish only when:
- the issuer’s official page and pricing disclosure have been checked;
- each material field has a direct evidence record and verification date;
- conflicting or missing terms are resolved or visibly withheld;
- the update owner accepts the review schedule;
- expired offers are removed or accurately archived; and
- compensation does not decide inclusion or ranking.
The CFPB agreement database and semiannual Terms of Credit Card Plans data can support verification, but neither eliminates the need to check the current issuer offer.
Update and expiration policy
| Classification | Examples | Review trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Durable | Documented historical milestones and formulas | Annual scholarship/correction review |
| Reviewed periodically | U.S. billing, interest, transaction, and protection explainers | Six- or twelve-month review plus relevant legal/standards events |
| Live check required | APRs, fees, rewards, offers, eligibility, and availability | Issuer verification near publication and on change signals |
| Event-driven | Law, ownership, standard, or network changes | Named event or authoritative update |
Dates must describe a real event such as source compilation, substantive review, or publication. The site must not display “updated today” automatically. A fact that cannot be reverified is removed, qualified, or expired rather than left as apparently current.
Corrections and complaints
A correction report should identify the page URL, exact statement or data row, why it may be wrong, and the best supporting source. Substantive corrections should be evaluated against primary evidence, changed promptly when warranted, and noted where the correction affects the meaning of the page or dataset.
A public, monitored correction channel is a production requirement. It is intentionally not fabricated in this build. When the owner provisions one, it should appear here and in the site footer, and the launch checklist should verify that messages are received and assigned.
Affiliate and advertising disclosure
This implementation contains no affiliate links, paid placement, sponsored card rankings, advertising scripts, review scores, or application funnel. If monetization is added later, compensation must be disclosed near affected links and in the methodology; it must not change factual standards, inclusion rules, or correction handling.
Privacy and data security
The static launch build includes no analytics provider, account system, form submission, cookies, advertising technology, or third-party runtime dependency. The interest calculator runs locally in the browser and does not transmit input values. Coarse custom events are emitted in the page only so a future consented measurement layer can count actions without collecting balances or APRs.
Do not enter card numbers, security codes, bank credentials, government identifiers, or issuer logins anywhere on this site. The calculator asks only for hypothetical or rounded financial values.
A deployed host may create standard security and access logs outside this static code. If hosting, analytics, forms, advertising, or other data processing is added, the site owner must publish a jurisdiction-appropriate privacy notice that names the actual controller, processors, purposes, retention, security controls, and user rights. Legal review is required before representing that future notice as complete.
